About the Firm

John started his practice in 1983. His first months' billing before expenses was $25. "I started with a borrowed computer, a borrowed phone, an old desk and chair."

Today, the firm has almost 100 varied business clients including restaurants, bars, gift shops, doctors' offices, an advertising agency, a flooring store, care homes, non-profit organizations, auto and transmission shops, grocery stores, a gas station and a flower shop. The firm does over 1,300 tax returns a year for individuals, C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, LLC's, fiduciaries, non-profit agencies, gift and inheritance taxes. John has personally prepared over 20,000 returns in the course of his career.

Marie Richards
Enrolled Agent and Senior Accountant. Marie started with John in 2000. She has a degree in accounting from the University of Texas and lives in Eureka with her husband. Marie loves Eureka because "the five minute drive to work can't be beat!"

Alaina Coffman
Office Manager since 1999. Alaina lives in McKinleyville with her two children. She moved to Humboldt County because she loves fresh air and the outdoors. Having a safe, positive environment to raise her children was the primary reason for moving here.

Teresa Lema
Front Office Liason and Payroll Administrator since October 2006. Teresa was born and raised in Ferndale. She and her daughter welcomed a gorgeous grandson this past December. In her own words: "My coworkers have become a second family and the clients are new friends."

Marion Taijala
Assistant Bookkeeper and Payroll Clerk since 2007. Marion was born and raised in Eureka, only leaving for the completion of her BA at UC Berkeley and an MS for her husband at Cal State University. She returned to the area to enjoy the outdoors that only Humboldt County can offer.

Part-Timers
During tax season, we also have several part-time workers including Carolyn, Tammy and Ashley. All have been with us for a number of years. In 2009 we welcomed Al to the firm.
